The Colorplan you know. A manufacturing story transformed.
The Colorplan system has always been defined by possibility: a carefully considered colour palette, a distinctive surface and the freedom to make colour your own.
Now the way it is manufactured has changed. By using BIOMETHANE in the manufacturing process, emissions for a typical Colorplan specification have fallen from 1.50 to 0.60 kg CO2e per kg, a reduction of around 60%.
The paper remains unmistakably Colorplan. The energy story behind it has moved forward.
WHAT CHANGED?
From organic matter to creative material.
BIOMETHANE is a renewable gas produced from organic matter. It can be used in place of conventional fossil gas within industrial processes.
For Colorplan, that change has significantly reduced manufacturing emissions while preserving the qualities that make the system distinctive: colour consistency, a unique tactile surface, and adaptability for every creative project.

Doesn't transporting Colorplan from Italy make it worse?
No. Transport from Italy to Hull creates more emissions than transport from the previous UK-based manufacturing route. But the reduction achieved during manufacturing is MUCH larger.
Colorplan with BIOMETHANE reaches Hull at 0.728 tonnes CO₂e per tonne of paper. The previous UK manufacturing route reached Hull at 1.648 tonnes CO₂e per tonne.
That makes the new Colorplan figure about 56% lower, even after accounting for inbound transport.
Through GF Smith's despacth gate, the comparable figures are 0.768 versus 1.688 tCO2e per tonne, about 55% lower.
